Williamson was referred to the ICC by the match officials following the Blackcaps' Test defeat by Sri Lanka in Galle
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been reported for a suspect bowling action.
Williamson was referred to the ICC by the match officials following the Blackcaps' Test defeat by Sri Lanka in Galle.
Akila Dananjaya, the Sri Lankan spinner, was also reported by the umpires.
Both players will now undergo testing over the course of the next few days - the process must be completed within two weeks of the report date, which was August 18.
They are permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of those examinations are available.
Akila Dananjaya has been reported alongside Williamson
Williamson and Dananjaya, therefore, could bowl in the second Test in Colombo, which is due to start on Thursday.
It is not the first time Kiwi skipper Williamson has had his action pulled up.
In 2014 he became the first New Zealander to be reported for a suspect action following a game against West Indies in Trinidad.
He was cleared to bowl by the ICC five months later.
Dananjaya, meanwhile, was most recently banned from bowling in November after being reported during the series against England.
He was cleared by the ICC in February.
