Jon Lewis leaves role as Durham head coach after 22 years at the county

Durham have announced that head coach Jon Lewis has left the county after 22 years following a review by new Director of Cricket Marcus North and Chief Executive Tim Bostock.

Lewis first joined Durham from Essex as a player in 1997, and became captain in 2000. He retired and became part of the coaching staff in 2006 after 146 first-class matches and a haul of 7,854 first-class runs.

He was given the job of head coach midway through the 2013 season as Durham went on to win their third County Championship.

Having been given the job on a permanent basis, Lewis coached Durham to a Royal London One-Day Cup title in 2014, and then to their first ever T20 Blast Finals Day in 2016.

Bostock said: “We wish Jon all the very best in the future and every success in his next career move.

“I would like to thank him for his hard work, dedication and outstanding commitment to Durham, Jon will always be welcome back here at Emirates Riverside.”
