Lancashire have confirmed overseas signing Joe Burns will return to Australia and not play for them again during the 2019 season.

Personal reasons are behind the 29-year-old Ashes hopeful's decision to depart Old Trafford after making just one outing in the County Championship.

Burns made just 10 in the 10-wicket win over Northamptonshire but will not have the opportunity to build on that start.

A club statement added: "Lancashire Cricket wishes Joe all the best, and it would be appreciated if his privacy is respected during this time."

Batsman Jake Lehmann, who played four times during Lancashire's One-Day Cup campaign, will replace Burns in the squad for the Division Two clash against Worcestershire starting on Monday.
