Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah could miss the crucial Test match in Brisbane as India's injury woes continue to mount
Jasprit Bumrah could miss India’s series decider against Australia which is due to start on Friday in Brisbane, with reports emerging that the paceman sustained an injury during the third Test.
India are already missing several key players, including captain Virat Kohli who returned to India after the first Test to attend the birth of his child, and Bumrah’s absence would add further pressure to their line-up ahead of the crucial match.
Citing Board of Control for Cricket in India sources, Press Trust of India revealed the 27-year old bowler, who took 3-134 in Sydney, suffered an abdominal injury while fielding which will rule him out of the fourth Test.
If his absence is confirmed, Bumrah will join fast bowlers Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Bhuvenshwar Kumar on India’s growing injury list.
With the BCCI unable to call up any reserves due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Mohammed Sirej, who has played just two Tests, would likely lead the pace attack.
Elsewhere, Ravindra Jadeja will miss the Brisbane clash after undergoing surgery on his left thumb on Monday night while Rishabh Pant (elbow), Ravichandran Ashwin (back) and Hanuma Vihari (hamstring) will be monitored throughout the week.
