Denly finished his time at the Big Bash with a vital 76 off 60 balls as the Sixers seized a shock victory over defending champions the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday, with Vince reportedly set to replace him
James Vince is being lined up by the Sydney Sixers to replace Joe Denly as an overseas player, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Denly finished his time at the Big Bash with a vital 76 off 60 balls as the Sixers seized a shock victory over defending champions the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.
The Kent allrounder has enjoyed a solid stint with the Sixers, who have been the surprise performers of the tournament, scoring 137 runs across seven innings.
He is flying back to the UK ahead of England’s Test and ODI series in the West Indies, and Vince looks like the man to replace Denly.
Joe Denly scored 137 runs for the Sydney Sixers across seven innings
The Hampshire captain has been playing for the Auckland Aces in New Zealand’s Super Smash where he has only scored 19 runs in the two matches he has played.
In terms of comparison, Denly currently sits at number 22 in the T20 Player Index, while is down at number 153.
Despite Vince having dropped from number 77, he is going to have to improve considerably on his performances in 2018 if he is to prove a good replacement for Denly.
