Jonny Bairstow has hailed David Warner after the Sunrisers Hyderabad opening pair inspired the nine-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

The England man struck 80 not out off 43 balls, drilling successive sixes to help the Sunrisers reach the target of 160 with 30 balls spare.

Bairstow and Warner (67) combined to deadly affect with an opening stand of 131, the fourth time the pair  - who will do battle in the World Cup and the Ashes later this summer - have reached three figures in the IPL.

"The bowlers did really well to restrict them after the start they had got," said the Yorkshireman. "Could have been chasing 200 after that start.

On his Aussie teammate, Bairstow added: "He's (Warner) a great bloke to bat with, we run well between wickets, which helps.

"I think there's been a lot of chat about the middle order, unfairly so, but they haven't had too much time in the middle.

"I'm loving every bit of my first IPL."

The result sees the Knight Riders lose a fifth game in a row, while the Sunrisers are now four in the table and remain in prime contention for the knock-out phase.
