Glamorgan pair Tom Cullen and Owen Morgan have extended their contracts with the Welsh county.

Both players have added a year onto their deals with the club, with Cullen experiencing a relative breakthrough in first-team cricket. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper stepped up to County Championship when Chris Cooke was ruled out through injury.

He made more than 319 runs at an average of 35.44 during his stint after Cooke suffered an ankle injury that kept him out of action for close to two months.

He also captained the second team to the second eleven T20 title, making 41 in the semi-final.

Reflecting on his own campaign and the progress made by Matt Maynard’s side in red-ball cricket, Cullen said: “This season we’ve turned things around and are moving in the right direction. To have played a role in that gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

“I just want to look to stay hungry, keep playing games and look to contribute to more success for the club next year. That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.”

Morgan, 25, has also extended his stay. A product of Glamorgan’s academy system, he became the first man in the club’s history to score a first-class century as a nightwatchman in 2016.

“Glamorgan is the only county I’ve ever wanted to play for,” he said. “I love playing here and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and working hard for the team.

“Hopefully I can impress the coaches over the winter and continue to put in strong performances and force with my way into the first team next year.”

Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, added: “Tom made some important contributions throughout 2019 and we are looking forward to his continued development as a professional cricketer.

“He’s starting to understand what it takes to make a career at the top level and we want to help him reach his potential.

“Owen has shown a willingness to adapt to whatever role he is thrown, whether that’s as an opening bowler in the Blast or an opening batsman in the County Championship, and his ability to learn and engage with coaches makes him really coachable.

“We believe he’s got what it takes to become an important member of the team.”
