Sibley sustained a minor fracture to the index finger on his right hand when dropping Steven Mullaney at slip off Tim Bresnan on Thursday, and is being assessed by the club's medical team
Dom Sibley could miss several County Championship rounds after fracturing his finger during Warwickshire's game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Sibley sustained a minor fracture to the second finger on his right hand when dropping Steven Mullaney at slip off Tim Bresnan on Thursday, and has since undergone an X-ray.
There is a chance the England opener will bat in the fixture against Nottinghamshire, but no final decision has been made.
He is almost certain, however, to be out of action for Warwickshire for a short period of time while the injury heals.
A club statement read: "Warwickshire CCC can confirm that Dom Sibley has a fracture to the second finger of his right hand following an X-ray.
"Sibley is being regularly assessed and his contribution to the remainder of the game will be determined by the level of discomfort that the player is experiencing and the medical team."
Sibley was named as one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year on Thursday, following a breakthrough 2020 in which he established himself at the top of the England order.
News of his injury comes just hours after it was confirmed that Ben Stokes requires surgery on a broken digit of his own and could be sidelined for as long as 12 weeks.
Sibley's problem is considerably less serious than Stokes', however, and he should recover fitness in time to play himself into form ahead of the first Test of the summer, against New Zealand at Lord's from June 2.
Jofra Archer is also recovering from a hand injury picked up while cleaning a fish tank at home and is sitting out the IPL.
