It had been hoped that Derbyshire would face Essex in the County Championship and Yorkshire in the T20 Blast at Queen's Park, Chesterfield
Derbyshire’s plans to host two games at Chesterfield as part of the county’s annual cricket festival have been scuppered by the extension of coronavirus restrictions.
It had been hoped that Derbyshire would face Essex in the County Championship and Yorkshire in the T20 Blast at Queen’s Park.
However, a statement from the club explained that the extension of stage three protocols for sports venues until July 19 had forced their hand, with the matches now being held instead at the Incora County Ground.
“The limits on capacities and additional operational costs due to Covid-safe protocols, have had significant commercial and operational implications on the viability of the festival,” it said.
Derbyshire remain hopeful that the Royal London Cup fixture against Yorkshire scheduled for August 8 will take place at Chesterfield.
Ryan Duckett, the county’s chief executive, added: “While we understand the government announcement is for the long-term benefits of the nation, it adds further challenges for the sports, leisure and hospitality sector and I'm bitterly disappointed for our members, supporters and sponsors.”
