Sri Lankan off-spinner Akila Dananjaya has been suspended from bowling after an independent assessment found his bowling action to be illegal.
He was reported by match officials after the first Test between Sri Lanka and England at Galle, which the tourists won by 211 runs, and it has been revealed his deliveries exceeded the 15-degree limit.
Despite using what is now known to be an illegal action, the spinner was only able to return match figures of 2-183.
He also featured in the second Test, which England won by nine wickets, but was absent from the third because of the testing which took place in Australia and has now revealed his action to be illegal.
He will be suspended from bowling in all matches recognised by the ICC, but with the consent of Sri Lanka Cricket may be able to bowl in domestic matches played under the auspices of SLC.
To have the suspension lifted, he will have to apply for re-assessment which will determine whether his action has been modified enough for it to be deemed legal.
