England have confirmed a 16-strong squad for the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka.

Chris Woakes returns to the fold six years on from his last international 20-over outing after an impressive start to the curtailed Indian Premier League with Delhi Capitals.

Hampshire's Liam Dawson and David Willey of Yorkshire have also earned recalls.

Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are both omitted as they continue to recover from finger and elbow injuries, respectively.

The IPL contingent of Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran - who were rested for the New Zealand Tests - as well as Eoin Morgan, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan and Jason Roy all return after run-outs for their respective counties in the T20 Blast.

Sri Lanka are the opponents for three T20s on June 23, 24 (both at Swalec Stadium) and 26 (The Ageas Bowl) as preparation for the World Cup in October and November ramps up.

England squad: Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
