The eighth edition of the competition is scheduled from August 19-September 26 but the coronavirus outbreak could yet force a postponement
Organisers of the Caribbean Premier League are confident the competition will go ahead later in the year but admit contingency plans are being formed if the event is affected by the global coronavirus pandemic.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has left the sporting schedule across the world decimated, with hundreds of events cancelled and postponed for the foreseeable future.
Cricket has been heavily affected with numerous tours and competitions pulled, with uncertainty growing over the Indian Premier League which has been delayed until at least mid-April.
Despite not taking place until August, the CPL have moved to quell fears their own showcase could be impacted.
However, alternatives are being discussed in the event the competition does have to be moved or rescheduled. The Caribbean only has a handful of confirmed cases of coronavirus and it is hoped those numbers will not significantly increase.
"CPL believes it is too early to make such a decision, but this is an evolving situation and we are carefully watching how events unfold in the Caribbean and around the world," a statement read.
"At present, the CPL team are planning for the tournament to take place as scheduled whilst also looking at alternative plans should they be needed."
Such is the confidence that cricket could take place in the West Indies later in the year, an offer has been made to England to host their upcoming three-Test series in September.
The Windies are due in England for a series in June, when scientific experts to the UK government expect cases of the virus to peak, leaving the matches in major doubt.
