Toyota Good For Cricket Award nominees:
John Kitteringham - St Margaretsbury CC
John is our president and has held almost all of the club committee roles in his 50+ years at the club. He is not a president in the traditional sense, but rather an active figure and organises the 'Friday Club', a collection of vice-presidents and life members that do all the work on the outfield and ground.
He is also a key diplomatic figure in a complex sports club structure run under a Trust.
John is funny, reliable and kind. To use a cliché, he is a safe pair of hands. Without doubt, John is the current standard bearer of a historic club, first established in 1737.
Dave Caunce – Croston CC
Dave has been involved in running the cricket section for over 40 years and in particular the Junior section for over 30 years. Almost every single person that is playing today has benefitted from his knowledge and dedication.
Simon Rice - Torquay and Kingskerswell CC
“Ricey” has the club running through his blood. as been Club Treasurer for more years than anyone likes to remember. One thing he excels at is thinking outside the box when it comes to income sources which as a result frees up the usual grants for those clubs who are unable to access such avenues.
Likewise, for many years, Ricey housed the club’s overseas players. Throughthrough sheer determination managed to secure Clubmark for the newly merged club within months – a truly remarkable achievement.
He has been the absolute driving force with the return of women’s and girls’ cricket to the club, and is also passionate about cricket in state schools.
Roger Wall – Chevening Amblers CC
For over 70 years, Roger has supported English cricket in every possible way - scoring, playing, organising cricket tours, making cricket teas, volunteering at the World Cup...
Committed to one local club - Locks Bottom CC - for four decades, he captained, was secretary for 28 years, and scored over 19,000 runs for the team.
Today, at 80-years-old he continues to support local cricket through umpiring with Chevening Ambler, who have nominated him to be club president.
His commitment to, dedication within, and love of the sport has seen him give endless hours and days to it and as his active participation with cricket comes to an end (next year will be his last as umpire), the club and I feel that he deserves some sort of acknowledgement of his hard work and passion.
Barry Hall – Settle CC
Barry Hall is a positive and supportive cricket coach for the Settle CC junior teams. Barry finds opportunities for the junior players to play organised cricket throughout the summer and not simply in school term time.
Barry willingly gives of his own time to ensure that the juniors have a good and positive cricket experience.
He is an encouraging presence for all players and embodies the spirit of cricket in everything he does.
