Derbyshire have announced that their home County Championship match against Glamorgan will now start a day earlier than previously scheduled and will now begin on Sunday, May 19.

The match had originally been scheduled to start on Monday, May 20, but has been brought back a day at the request of the club so they can offer an extra day of weekend cricket at Derby.

The away fixture at Swansea has also been moved at the request of Glamorgan, and will now start on Tuesday, June 11, having previously been slated to begin on Wednesday, June 20.

Interim chief executive, Ryan Duckett said: “Following the fixture announcement at the end of November, we have explored ways we can offer more weekend cricket in Derby in 2019.

“We are grateful to Glamorgan for agreeing to change the start date for our match in May. It will mean that, in total, we will host 11 days of weekend cricket at The County Ground in 2019.

“Membership is still the best value way to watch cricket in Derby next summer and we hope many Members, new and old, will join us in 2019.”

Derbyshire are not the first side to move a match back to start a day earlier to meet demands for more weekend cricket after the release of the fixtures in November.

Surrey announced on December 8 that their County Championship fixture against Warwickshire will start a day earlier, on Sunday, June 23.
