Scorecard

Barbados Royals have extended their unbeaten streak in the 2022 Caribbean Premier League to six matches following a routine eight-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders.

The Knight Riders, who have struggled with the bat throughout the tournament, batted first and soon found themselves in trouble, slumping to 37 for 4 after 6.1 overs.

Nicholas Pooran, top-scoring for his side with 52 runs off 43 balls, put on 70 runs (59 balls) with Sunil Narine for the fifth wicket. However, his dismissal in the 16th over killed TKR's momentum and the final six wickets fell for the addition of just 25 runs: TKR all out for 132.

Narine contributed 30 runs off 31 balls to the total while Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the standout performer with the ball, collecting 3 for 17 in his first appearance for the Royals since arriving in the Caribbean after the Asia Cup. There were two wickets apiece for Jason Holder, Rahkeem Cornwall and Obed McCoy.

In reply, Kyle Mayers was once again at the heart of the chase for the Royals, blasting 79 runs from just 36 deliveries, including 10 fours and five sixes.

He put on 98 runs off 61 balls with Corbin Bosch before being removed by Daryn Dupavillon in the 12th over. However, with his side requiring just 25 runs to win, Bosch (33 off 43) and Quinton de Kock (12 off 12) had ample time to seal the win.

Mayers is now the leading run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 285 runs, including three half-centuries, at a strike rate of 164.73 and has struck 29 fours and 18 sixes.

Barbados Royals sit top of the CPL with a six-point cushion over second place and nine points clear of fifth while TKR are languishing at the foot of the table with one win from five.
