David Peever has resigned as chairman of Cricket Australia with immediate effect.

His resignation comes after a tough week for CA in which they were characterised as "arrogant" and "controlling" in the scathing Ethics Centre review released on Monday.

Despite being unanimously re-elected to an unprecedented second consecutive three-year term at Cricket Australia's AGM only last Thursday, his decision has been confirmed by the organisation.

Earl Eddings, who was appointed as deputy chairman at the same meeting, will serve as interim chairman.

At the release press conference on Monday, Peever said they had already started implementing around half the changes recommended in the review and that "mistakes have been made, lessons have been learnt, and changes are and will continue to take place".

He also repeatedly declared he would not be resigning, but it would seem that those changes are not limited to the role of chairman, and Cricket Australia will now start the process of looking for a replacement.

Controversy surrounded the confirmation of Peever's second term as it came before the state associations had been given the chance to read the review, and they were only allowed a brief period to read it after the AGM.

High-profile names like former Australia test captain Ian Chappell had argued told Australian broadcaster ABC that the organisation would "struggle to change" with Peever still at the helm and that only the players had answered for mistakes made in recent months.

Cricket Australia will be hoping this marks the end of a tumultuous period which has also seen the departure of CEO James Sutherland, captain Steve Smith, head coach Darren Lehmann, and high performance manager Pat Howard since the ball-tampering scandal in March.
