The Cricketer

The Event:

As we look forward to the Ashes this winter, The Cricketer is delighted to invite you to an evening of discussion, insight and laughter in the company of Bob Willis, someone with more than his fair share of experience of doing battle with Australia. As one of only five English members of the 300 Club, Bob Willis was one of England’s fastest post-War bowlers, and perpetrator of one of the most devastating bowling performances in an England shirt in living memory. The image of him storming down the hill at Headingley in 1981, bowling Ray Bright with a perfect middle stump yorker, before leaping into the air and charging helter skelter for the pavilion is surely one of the most enduring and evocative in the game’s history.

Please join The Cricketer on 2nd November to hear Willis reminisce about his life in cricket and his verdict on the forthcoming Ashes series. The evening will be chaired by our editor Simon Hughes who will help draw out some answers from Bob, including:

  • His feelings on his long and storied career, notably his painstaking recovery from surgery on both knees in 1975, and memories of his four Ashes tours, from emergency replacement in 1970-71 to captain in 1982-83
  • Listen to his thoughts on the forthcoming Ashes series…How does he think Joe Root’s side are shaping up? Will the Australian players’ dispute with Cricket Australia prove to be a hindrance? What is his prediction?
  • Ask him your own questions…Who were the most dangerous batsmen he bowled to? Which present-day bowlers remind him of him? How does he compare cricket played today with that of when he was playing? Does he enjoy his role in the Verdict for Sky Sports and how has cricket broadcasting changed in his career?
Please do join us for what should be a wonderful evening - but please note tickets are strictly limited - so book now to avoid disappointment.
