Sussex have closed day one on 106 for 3 at Hove. Ed Joyce is unbeaten on 49 but was dropped twice off the bowling of Tim Murtagh. Middlesex were all out for 170 earlier as they succumbed to additional bounce on a steamer-friendly track.
