Hughes plays down talk of Test comeback

Worcestershire batsman Phil Hughes has played down talk of a possible return to Australia’s Test side after a successful season in county cricket.

The 23-year-old left hander was dropped by Australia in December and was overlooked for their current A team tour of England. Hughes has refined his technique and has found form and confidence with Worcestershire making runs in all three formats including his first County Championship century in the current match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Hughes was dropped for the 2009 Ashes Test at Edgbaston, is enjoying his cricket at the moment but is not thinking about a possible international return.

“I wanted to come over here and play all three forms. To keep this momentum going in all three formats puts a smile on my face,” Hughes said. “Sometimes it can be difficult to change from format to format but personally I have enjoyed it.

“Worcestershire are a fantastic club to play for and the boys have made me feel very welcome. I’m happy to be given this opportunity. “I want to be playing all forms and as much cricket as I possibly can be. The opportunity came up to play for Worcestershire.

“As for Australia I don’t really want to talk about that. I just want to score as many runs as I possibly can and all that stuff will take care of itself.”
