Yorkshire call on Miller for overseas aid

By Graham Hardcastle

South African batsman David Miller has been re-registered as Yorkshire’s main overseas player, making him available for the county’s forthcoming Clydesdale Bank 40 matches against Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and the Unicorns.

The White Rose county face a crucial week of 40-over action as they bid to keep their slim hopes of qualification alive after a poor start to the Group C campaign. They travel to Edgbaston on Tuesday night (August 7), Wantage Road on Thursday before returning to Headingley on Sunday.

Miller played a crucial role in Yorkshire’s run to their first ever t20 Finals Day as the county’s specialist overseas player. He is due to link up with South Africa’s A squad for their limited-overs tour of Ireland during the early stages of the week after next, so Yorkshire have decided to utilise his services now that Mitchell Starc has returned to Australia.

The left-hander will cover for the loss of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, who are both playing for the England Lions against Australia A at Old Trafford, starting on Tuesday. Miller will then travel to the Emerald Isle before returning to the UK in time to play at Finals Day in Cardiff on August 25.
