Jefferson injury could end his season

By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent

Leicestershire opening batsman Will Jefferson is likely to miss the rest of the season because of a hip problem. The 32-year-old former England A right hander has managed only two LV= County Championship appearances this season following a delayed start caused by a back problem.

Jefferson suffered what was thought to be recurrence of his back problem but the injury has now been diagnosed as a hip complaint. He had scans recently which revealed that the injury is more serious than first suspected and he is due to have further consultations with a specialist to decide the next course of action.

Meanwhile Leicestershire have called up former Kent wicketkeeper Paul Dixey for his first County Championship appearance of the season against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College tomorrow.

Dixey, who broke a thumb in a second team match at the start of the season, is in line to play to take some of the pressure off Ned Eckersley who is likely to bat at three.

All-rounder Wayne White returns to action after he was suspended for two Clydesdale Bank 40 matches over the weekend for internal disciplinary reasons.
