Charlie Shreck had the tourists' captain Graeme Smith caught behind for  21 as South Africa reached stumps on 31 for one after 13 overs, this after dismissing Kent for 210 inside 74.2 overs. Former Glamorgan stalwart Michael Powell dug deep for the hosts, batting 182 minutes for his unbeaten 48, while Imran Tahir took four for 31 for the Proteas.
