Rankin lines up return in Ireland T20s
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Warwickshire paceman Boyd Rankin is set to make his return to senior action for Ireland in next week’s Twenty20 internationals against Bangladesh in Belfast.
Rankin has played only two second team games for Warwickshire this season after he broke down with a stress reaction in a foot playing for Ireland in the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates in March.
He began his comeback in the Second XI Championship match against MCC Universities on he Isle of Wight two weeks ago and played again in this week’s rain-wrecked contest against Northamptonshire at Moseley.
Rankin has now been named in Ireland’s squad for the three matches against Bangladesh which will be played at Stormont on July 18, 20 and 21.
Rankin’s Warwickshire team-mate William Porterfield will captain Ireland in the three-match series which means that neither will be available for next week’s County Championship match against Somerset at Taunton.
Other county players who will also be required for Ireland duty are Northamptonshire wicketkeeper Niall O’Brien, Somerset left arm spinner George Dockrell, Sussex batsman Ed Joyce, Middlesex pair Paul Stirling and Tim Murtagh and Surrey wicketkeeper-batsman Gary Wilson.
