Solanki "not overjoyed" at prospect of leaving Worcs
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire batsman Vikram Solanki has admitted that he is “not overjoyed” at the prospect of having to think about the possibility of leaving New Road.
The county have yet offer their former captain a new contract when his existing deal expires at the end of the season and have given permission to Solanki to speak to other counties.
The 36-year-old former England one-day international has played all his county cricket for Worcestershire and would like to end his playing days at New Road but accepts that he may be forced to move on.
“The club have made their position clear as far as them being uncertain as to whether there will be an offer,” Solanki said. “I respect that but I owe it to myself and my family. I'd dearly like to play here. I'd like to play at Worcester ideally.
“But if it's a case that I need to consider other options, I owe it to myself and my family to explore those options. I still think I'm fit enough to play. I work reasonably hard on my fitness and still think I've got plenty to offer whichever team I might be playing for.
“I'd like to play for certainly another couple of years and perhaps longer. I've been given the opportunity to speak to other counties and I'm exploring my options.
“I'm not overjoyed about the situation but it is what it is. The club have done a great deal for me. This place will always hold a special place in my heart.”
