Richardson extends Worcs contract to 2014
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire's veteran seamer Alan Richardson has signed a contract extension that will keep him at New Road until the end of the 2014 season.
The 37-year-old played a leading role in keeping Worcestershire in the top flight of the County Championship last season by taking 73 wickets and he has just returned to action after two months out with a shoulder muscle injury.
Richardson, who was named in April as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year, is with his fourth county after previous stints with Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Middlesex.
"I'm delighted to have been offered the chance to continue my career at the club. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and look forward to playing in a side that continues to grow and improve," said Richardson.
Worcestershire have also secured the services of rookie seamer Nick Harrison, 20, on a two-year contract. Harrison, an academy product, made his senior debut last season and helped Worcestershire reach the Second XI Twenty20 finals day at Arundel two weeks ago.
But Worcestershire have released former England Under-19 left-hander batsman Jack Manuel who made his only first-class appearance, against Somerset last season.
