Solanki free to speak to other counties
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire have given former England one-day international batsman Vikram Solanki permission to speak to other counties. Solanki, 36, is out of contract at the end of the season and indicated before the start of the campaign that he hoped to secure a new deal at New Road.
But Worcestershire appear to be reserving judgement on their former captain, who made one County Championship century in their first eight matches this season, and they have yet to commit themselves to a new contract for Solanki.
Instead they have told Solanki that he is free to speak to other counties and his details have been circulated by the Professional Cricketers’ Association, the organisation of which he is chairman.
It is understood that there have already been a couple of early expressions of interest in Solanki, who is believed to be Worcestershire’s highest paid player.
Spotted by Worcestershire playing for Wolverhampton, his home town club, Solanki made rapid progress through their age groups into the senior side.
Solanki has scored almost 15,000 first-class runs, including 29 centuries, for Worcestershire since he made his debut in 1995. He captained the county from 2004 until his resignation in August 2010.
