McKenzie extends his Hampshire stay
Neil McKenzie will play his first LV County Championship match of the season this week after extending his stay with Hampshire.
McKenzie replaces the injured Michael Carberry after being preferred to James Vince for the match against Yorkshire at the Ageas Bowl, starting tomorrow (July 11).
Originally signed as a Friends Life t20 specialist, McKenzie is expected to open with captain Jimmy Adams. He said: “I’m not here for the whole season but am definitely here for the next month and a half and we’ll take it from there.
“They just want a bit of experience and cover for Carbs as they’re not too sure about the extent of his knee injury. I was almost going to go home and come back for the FLt20 quarter-finals. Now I’m staying, and I’m looking forward to it.
“It will be nice to play some cricket and get into it. We’re still in with a shout in all three competitions so there’s a lot to play for.”
Simon Katich has recovered from flu in time to be included in a 12-man squad: Adams, McKenzie, Shafayat, Katich, Dawson, Ervine, Bates, Mascarenhas, Briggs, Kabir Ali, Balcombe, Tomlinson.
