Worcs give up on Sohail Tanvir signing
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire have cut their losses and decided that Pakistan left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir will not be joining them as their second overseas player for this season’s Friends Life t20.
Tanvir had encountered further problems in obtaining the visa he needs to enter Britain which meant that he would only be available for Worcestershire’s last three FLt20 matches.
He has already missed six group matches and the latest delay ruled him out of tomorrow’s rearranged match against Glamorgan in Cardiff. Even if Tanvir was receive his visa tomorrow and be able to get booked on an early flight to Britain his county debut would not have come until Thursday’s match against Gloucestershire at Bristol.
"It has been well documented that obtaining visas for overseas professionals is becoming more and more difficult, particularly with the amount of time international players spend away from their home country, and we are very disappointed that Sohail won't be joining us,” said Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale.
"However, with just four matches remaining in the group stage of our 2012 Friends Life t20 campaign and still no guarantee that the visa process has been completed in Pakistan, his stay with the club is no longer practical. We thank Sohail for his efforts in doing everything he could in order to obtain the visa and wish him every success in the future."
