Dragons still on course for t20 glory: Allenby
By Richard Thomas
Glamorgan’s Twenty20 captain Jim Allenby believes the county are still on for a fruitful Friends Life t20 campaign despite the ravages of the weather.
The Welsh Dragons go into four games in five days from Friday night (June 29) having accrued only four points from their four games so far.
A rain-affected win, a defeat and two wash-outs are all the Dragons have to show so far in a competition which they have targeted by signing the likes of Shaun Marsh and Martin van Jaarsveld.
With the competition's Finals Day being staged at the Swalec Stadium there has been extra incentive for Allenby’s men to perform in T20.
“We have four games in five days and that's a massive time for us,” said Allenby. "If we can we at least three of them I think we will find ourselves in at least second spot. Our group is wide open. Everyone is getting the weather.
"The four points is not an ideal start but it could have been a lot worse. We batted brilliantly [at Taunton] but that knock from James Hildreth [107 not out from 60 balls] was one of the best I've seen."
Somerset won that match with two balls to spare, but the Dragons are seeking to put it behind them when they travel to face Worcestershire Royals on Friday.
Allenby's men then host Northamptonshire Steelbacks at the Swalec Stadium on Saturday, travel to Gloucestershire Gladiators on Monday and host the Royals in Cardiff on Tuesday in a crucial period that will determine their fate in this season's FLt20.
