Sessay move closer to Lord's final
Sessay will face 2011 champions Woodhouses in the next round of the Yorkshire Tea Village Cup in a rematch of last year’s semi-final.
Sessay beat Studley Royal in yesterday’s North Yorkshire (North) regional final by 34 runs. The match was rearranged twice due to bad weather.
And it took a huge community effort to get the game played, with villagers from Sessay turning out in large numbers over the weekend armed with towels, forks and brushes to remove the pools of water from the ground.
Sessay won the 22-over match thanks to a man-of-the-match performance from opener Mark Wilkie who scored 72 and was brilliantly supported by Matthew Till in an opening partnership worth 138.
Studley Royal, facing an intimidating target of 173, made a promising start but then fell away in the latter stages and in the end were well beaten.
Sessay are now four wins away from a return to Lord’s where they won the Village Cup two years ago. But first they must defeat old foes Woodhouses of Lancashire. Sunday’s game against Woodhouses starts at 1pm.
