By Paul Bolton

Warwickshire prospect Freddie Coleman has won this year’s Walter Lawrence MCC Universities Award for the highest score in matches involving the six MCCUs or against one of the first-class counties.

Coleman, a 20-year-old Scot, made 141 against Durham MCCU at the Racecourse in Durham on April 28 from 275 balls with 14 fours and a six. He is the seventh recipient of the Walter Lawrence MCCU Award but the first Oxford batsman.

He has played for Scotland in this season Clydesdale Bank 40 competition, having made his first-class debut for them against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah in February.

Coleman, who is now back playing for Warwickshire’s Second XI having graduated from the county’s academy, will receive a silver medallion and a prize of £1,000 at the Walter Lawrence Trophy presentation dinner in the Long Room at Lord’s in October.
