Richardson ready to start comeback
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire’s veteran seamer Alan Richardson will begin his comeback from a shoulder muscle injury in a second team match next week.
Richardson, 37, has not played since he broke down with the injury during the drawn County Championship match against Surrey at New Road in early May.
But he has resumed bowling in the nets in recent weeks and has trained with Worcestershire’s first team during their recent Friends Life t20 matches.
Richardson is now ready to test the injury in match conditions and will play for Worcestershire in the three-day Second XI Championship match against Yorkshire at Shaw Lane in Barnsley starting on June 26.
Worcestershire do not intend to play Richardson in their t20 side so that they can keep him fit for County Championship cricket. The aim is to have Richardson ready for a first team return when they resume County Championship action against Durham at New Road on July 10.
