Leics wait on White fitness test

By Paul Bolton

Leicestershire will give a fitness test to all-rounder Wayne White before they finalise their side for tonight’s Friends Life t20 match against Lancashire at Old Trafford.

White slipped fielding in the defeat by Yorkshire at Headingley on Sunday and has not been involved in Leicestershire’s practice sessions since.

"Wayne slipped in the outfield at Headingley on Sunday and has a slight problem at the top of his hamstring," said Leicestershire coach Phil Whitticase.

"We have taken him out of practice for the last couple of days, though he did have a hit in the nets yesterday. I think he should be okay."

White has been named in an unchanged squad as Leicestershire seek their first win in their defence of the title they won at Edgbaston last August.

Opening batsman Will Jefferson, who was a key member of that title-winning side, has yet to appear this season because of a back problem.

But Jefferson is scheduled to attempt a comeback in a second team match against Derbyshire at Belper today where his fitness will be monitored. If all goes well he could be in contention for a first team recall in Friday’s t20 match against Derbyshire at Grace Road.
