Warwicks to miss Porterfield and Woakes
By Paul Bolton
Warwickshire will be without batsman William Porterfield and all-rounder Chris Woakes for their Friends Life t20 matches against Somerset at Edgbaston tomorrow and Worcestershire at New Road on Friday.
Porterfield is required for Ireland’s one-day international against Australia in Belfast on Saturday and has already flown home to prepare for the contest.
Woakes has been included in England’s squad for their third and final one-day international against the West Indies at Headingley on Friday and he will travel north on Thursday.
Seamer Woakes was drafted into England’s squad for Tuesday’s win at The Oval which clinched the series but he was not included in the side and was then released to play for Warwickshire in their Twenty20 match against Northamptonshire at Edgbaston.
Woakes played his part in helping Warwickshire to their first win in the competition this season by playing an important supporting role to Laurie Evans who saw Warwickshire to a six-wicket win with an unbeaten 68, his first half-century in the competition.
Warwickshire hope that captain Jim Troughton will be fit to make his first appearance of the season against Somerset. Troughton suffered a back injury in the warm-up before the County Championship match against Durham two weeks ago and failed a fitness test before the Northamptonshire Twenty20 contest.
All-rounder Neil Carter, who has yet to feature in Warwickshire’s Twenty20 side this season, is a possible replacement for Woakes.
