Glamorgan postpone t20 in respect for Maynard family
By Richard Thomas
Glamorgan have postponed their Friends Life t20 match against the Worcestershire Royals on Wednesday June 20 as a mark of respect for Tom Maynard and his family.
Maynard, 23, a former Glamorgan player and the son of former Glamorgan and England batsman Matthew Maynard, died on Monday at around 5am after being hit by a London Underground train at Wimbledon Park.
"Glamorgan would like to thank both the England & Wales Cricket Board and Worcestershire County Cricket Club for their understanding and co-operation with this matter," read a Glamorgan statement. "The match has now been re-arranged and will take place at the SWALEC Stadium on Tuesday July 3."
Meanwhile, Matthew Maynard, who also captained and coached Glamorgan, and his family have released a statement describing Tom's death as "devastating".
"The Maynard family would like to thank everyone for the many messages of support following Tom's tragic death in London yesterday morning," a statement from the family read.
"As you can appreciate, the news has come as a devastating blow and although the family is grateful for all the kind messages of sympathy, we would ask that we can be left to grieve in private at this very difficult and sad time for us."
