Sohail Tanvir arrival further delayed

By Paul Bolton

The arrival of Worcestershire’s new overseas t20 recruit Sohail Tanvir has been further delayed. The Pakistan left arm seamer’s inclusion in the current one-day series in Sri Lanka has complicated his visa application process and he is not now expected to arrive in England until the week starting June 25.

Worcestershire hoped that Tanvir would be able to travel to England direct from Sri Lanka but a tightening up of regulations means that he will have to start his journey back in Pakistan.

“Changes to the Visa licensing regulations for overseas players meant that Sohail was unable to complete the Visa process before leaving for Sri Lanka some three weeks ago,” said Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale.

"After an unexpected extended stay with the Pakistan national team for the one-day international matches, it was hoped that the final part of Sohail's visa application to visit the UK could be completed while in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Sohail will now be travelling back to Pakistan on conclusion of the one-day series next Tuesday (June 19) to complete the process.

"It is expected that Sohail will then be able to join us early in the week commencing June 25 for our important last five group matches. We hope that he will make the same impact as he did in the two-match series against Sri Lanka, which saw him win the man of the series award."

Tanvir has already missed Worcestershire’s Friends Life t20 opener against Warwickshire at Edgbaston and he will also miss tomorrow’s match against Gloucestershire at New Road, the trip to Cardiff to face Glamorgan next Wednesday, the return match against Warwickshire at New Road next Friday and the trip to Northampton a week today.
