Record crowd predicted for Dragons' debut

By Richard Thomas

The Welsh Dragons are hoping to attract a record-breaking crowd of around 13,000 for their first home Friends Life t20 match against Warwickshire Bears in Cardiff on Sunday evening.

A special ticket promotion, underwritten by sponsors Swalec, is set to top Glamorgan’s previous record of 9,300 for a domestic county match staged in Wales.

"We have put a massive impetus on playing well at home and getting a good crowd in," said the Welsh Dragons' skipper Jim Allenby.

"The club and Swalec have done a great job to get 12,500-13,000 tickets sold and we need to play a good game and try to get most of those people back again. If we don't perform people might not want to watch again and that's probably fair enough."

Glamorgan are particularly keen to do well in the Twenty20 Cup as the Swalec Stadium is staging the Finals Day on 25 August. The Dragons’ opening FLt20 game at Northampton was abandoned because of rain with only 9.3 overs possible.
