Bremner to head up Twenty20 fun

By Paul Bolton

This season’s Friends Life t20 really will be ‘hit and giggle cricket’ following the decision of the England and Wales Cricket Board to hire a team of comedians, headed by Rory Bremner, to provide entertainment at matches.

Bremner, a keen cricket fan, will be the headline act at Finals Day at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff on August 25 but other comedians have been put on a rota to provide the entertainment at cricket and comedy nights around the country at the group stage of the competition.

Chris Martin – not to be confused with the New Zealand and former Warwickshire seam bowler despite his comedic batting pads – Stu Goldsmith, Jimmy McGhie, Paul Sinha and Rob Beckett are the other stand-up comics who will be on county duty around the shires starting on June 21.

Sinha has appeared on Test Match Sofa and Sky’s Cricket AM, McGhie is captain of the Groucho Club cricket team and Beckett’s claim to fame is that he was runner-up in So You Think You’re Funny.

The comedians will perform public address duties on match days at the matches they have been allocated to, interview players and help promote the Friends Life t20 competition with tweets in advance.
