Tanvir out of Worcs' T20 openers

By Paul Bolton

Worcestershire be without their new overseas recruit Sohail Tanvir for at least their first two Friends Life t20 matches. The 27-year-old left-armer has been added to Pakistan’s squad for their one-day series in Sri Lanka as a replacement for Nasir Jamshed who has a finger injury.

Tanvir was man of the match in the recent Twenty20 series which finished 1-1 and has now been added to the squad for the five-match one-day series. He will definitely miss Worcestershire’s opening FLt20 match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on June 15 and also the home match against Gloucestershire at New Road two weeks later.

Worcestershire have yet to hear whether Tanvir will arrive in the Midlands in time for him to face Glamorgan in Cardiff on June 20. He will definitely miss two Twenty20 matches, it might miss a third but that is to be confirmed,” said Worcestershire’s director of cricket Steve Rhodes.

Tanvir was recruited by Worcestershire as a specialist Twenty20 overseas player as a replacement for his compatriot Saeed Ajmal who was forced to withdraw from his county contract because of his involvement in Pakistan’s forthcoming Test series in Sri Lanka.
