Thakor chosen to face West Indies
By Paul Bolton
England Under-19 all-rounder Shiv Thakor will make his first appearance of the season for Leicestershire in their two-day tour match against the West Indies at Grace Road tomorrow.
The 18-year-old, who is likely to be in England’s squad for the Under-19 World Cup in Australia later this season, has been unavailable so far this season because of school commitments.
But he is available for the weekend fixture, the West Indies’ last match before they face England in the third Test at Edgbaston.
Thakor takes his place in a much-changed Leicestershire side which sees Matthew Hoggard, Nathan Buck, Wayne White and Claude Henderson rested from the side that has been in County Championship action against Glamorgan this week.
Former Worcestershire and Gloucestershire batsman Kadeer Ali, who is playing for Leicestershire on a match-by-match basis, is included in the squad along with rookie slow left-armer James Sykes.
Loughborough University all-rounder Rob Taylor, a regular in Leicestershire’s Clydesdale Bank 40 side this season, is also in the squad.
Former Sussex batsman Michael Thornely, who has impressed on his Leicestershire debut against Glamorgan, will also face the tourists.
Thornely, who is keen to revive his first-class career having been released by Sussex two years ago, is playing for Leicestershire on a trial basis while Will Jefferson is sidelined by a back problem.
