Midlands venues chosen for 2013 tour games

By Paul Bolton

Leicester, Worcester and Northampton have all been chosen as venues for tour matches next year. Grace Road in Leicester will be the venue for the match between England Lions and New Zealand, the first tourists of the summer, between May 9 and 12.

Australia will be the visitors to New Road at Worcester for a four-day match against Worcestershire between July 2 and 5, having begun their Ashes tour with a four-day match against Somerset at Taunton between June 26 and 29.

Wantage Road at Northampton is due to stage a two-day match between Northamptonshire and Australia from August 16 to 17 but England Lions will provide the opposition for the tourists if Northamptonshire reach the Friends Life t20 Finals Day.

Northamptonshire have worked to secure the fixture, which could be worth a six-figure sum to them, and have been rewarded for successfully hosting the England Lions v West Indies fixture last month.

The international schedule for 2013, which was announced by the ECB today, also confirms that Edgbaston will be the venue for the final of the ICC Champions Trophy on June23.  Group matches will be played between June 6 and 17 at Edgbaston, Cardiff and The Oval.
