Harris targets Glamorgan comeback next week
By Richard Thomas
Injury-hit England Lions fast bowler James Harris is targeting a start to his 2012 campaign in Glamorgan’s home LV County Championship match against Leicestershire starting next Tuesday (May 29).
It has been a long time coming for 22-year-old Harris, who has been plagued by a groin injury for much of the last six months, culminating in double hernia surgery in February. His injury problems meant he missed the Lions tour to Sri Lanka and will have missed Glamorgan’s opening seven Championship games.
But following a return to Glamorgan second team action at Bristol he seems to have shaken off the problem. “It has been a nightmare which started last September,” he said.
“I have had to have surgery which has not been ideal, but if you look back in the next, hopefully, 10 years, this will be a break that I probably needed. My body was telling me it was quite tired and hopefully it will turn out to be a positive thing."
Harris said he was pleasantly surprised how well he felt bowling at Bristol yesterday. “I feel very good. It’s been a long time coming,” he added. “I have my eye on Leicestershire next week and, while it might be coming a week too early, I am hoping I will be in contention.
“Nothing's been set in stone yet. But obviously it depends on how my body sort of holds up through this week. It may be a week early, but hopefully I can get back in time."
