Chapple scan result boosts Lancs
By Graham Hardcastle
Lancashire have been handed a boost with the news that a scan on captain Glen Chapple’s injured side has come back all clear, which has allowed them to name the 38 year-old in their 14-man squad for tomorrow’s County Championship match against Middlesex at Liverpool.
Chapple pulled up complaining of pain in his left side during the opening day of their drawn match with Warwickshire at Edgbaston, which started last Wednesday. He was only able to bowl one over for the rest of the match.
Initial fears were that Chapple could be out for up to eight weeks, with the worst case scenario being a torn intercostal muscle. But he bowled in the nets today, and will be further assessed before the toss to determine whether he is completely pain free and able to lead his side in search of their first win in seven matches.
Even if Chapple does not make it against Middlesex, then he is likely to face Durham at the Emirates ICG next week, which is perhaps what Lancashire would have settled for heading into his scan yesterday.
The chances are, however, that Chapple, known for his powers of recovery, will face up against Middlesex.
