Pace prospect Gordon out for season

By Paul Bolton

Warwickshire have confirmed that rookie fast bowler Recordo Gordon will miss the whole of his first season at Edgbaston.

The county had high hopes of the 20-year-old who was born in Jamaica but raised in Aston after some impressive displays in their Second XI last season.

But Gordon suffered a stress fracture of the back during Warwickshire’s pre-season tour to Barbados and was initially ruled out for the first three months of the season.

Gordon is now unlikely to be fit until late August and Warwickshire have decided that there is no point in rushing his comeback for three weeks of cricket so they have written off the entire season.

There is better news, however, of Ireland fast bowler Boyd Rankin who has yet to play this season because of a foot injury. Rankin sustained the injury playing for Ireland in the World Twenty20 qualifiers in March when a heavy schedule of eleven matches in 12 days gave him no time to rest and recuperate.

Rankin is four weeks away from playing again which means that he will miss the first half of Warwickshire’s County Championship campaign but he should be fit to resume playing early in the Friends Life t20 competition.
