Low-key Sussex return for Wright

By Bruce Talbot

Luke Wright is back playing for Sussex again after cutting short his IPL stint because of illness. The all-rounder is in action against Kent in a second-team fixture at Arundel this week after recovering from tonsillitis and a suspected case of dengue fever.

Wright was allowed to return home for a family funeral when he was laid low and his IPL franchise Pune Warriors have told him he does not need to go back to India for their final game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, with Pune not in contention for a place in the knock-out phase.

“I’m feeling pretty good," said Wright. "I had four or five days in bed and felt horrendous so it was just a case of getting some energy back. (Coach) Mark Robinson felt it was a bit early to play in the County Championship game this week against Worcestershire but hopefully I will be back on Sunday in the Clyesdale Bank 40 against Northamptonshire.”

Wright bowled four overs and scored 29 runs on the opening day of the second XI fixture as he swapped the heat and humidity of India for chilly Arundel. “It was quite a contrast,” he admitted. “But it’s good to be back.”
