Wakely and Vaas to miss Kent match
By Paul Bolton
Northamptonshire will be without batsman Alex Wakely and former Sri Lanka all-rounder Chaminda Vaas for their LV= County Championship match against Kent at Canterbury this week.
Wakely has failed to recover from the thigh strain he sustained in last week’s nail-biting draw against Leicestershire at Grace Road.
Vaas is still troubled by the hip muscle injury he suffered during the same match and which prevented him from bowling on the final day when Northamptonshire were pushing for what would have been a second consecutive Championship victory.
Vaas’s absence at Canterbury will be covered by the return to county duty of England Lions seamer Jack Brooks who impressed against the West Indies at Wantage Road last week.
Wakely’s place is likely to be taken by Con de Lange who is in line for his Championship debut. De Lange, 31, has played in both of Northamptonshire’s Clydesdale Bank 40 matches this season and also appeared in the non-first-class match at Durham MCCU.
He has played 83 first-class matches in South Africa, moreover, the most recent of them for Free State against South Western Districts at Oudtshoorn 15 months ago.
