Hampshire sign Shafayat

Former England Under-19 captain Bilal Shafayat is in contention to make his Hampshire debut against Derbyshire after signing a short-term deal on the abandoned first day at the Ageas Bowl.
 
Shafayat, released by Notts at the end of the 2010 season, has impressed for Hampshire's 2nd XI this season and last summer. The 27-year-old has no formal contract but will be available on a match-by-match basis.
 
Hampshire manager Giles White said: “Bilal will provide back-up for our batting line-up over the next few games. Having missed Jimmy Adams and Michael Carberry for different reasons in the last few matches we thought it wise to have some additional strength in depth."
