Notts appeal for return of Larwood statue
By Dave Bracegirdle
Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club have appealed for information to assist in the safe return of a bronze statue of legendary fast bowler Harold Larwood that has been reported missing from Trent Bridge.
The piece is one of six miniature replicas, approximately 50cm in height, commissioned to commemorate the full-size monument of the former England and Nottinghamshire fast bowler Larwood which stands in Kirkby-in-Ashfield town centre.
It disappeared between Tuesday 24 April and Wednesday 2 May, and the distinctive statuette showing Larwood in his delivery stride was created by Neale Andrew in 2002.
“The statuette isn’t hugely valuable but it has a huge sentimental value to our club,” said Nottinghamshire chief executive Lisa Pursehouse.
“We put it on display for the benefit of our members and we are determined to get it back and return it to its rightful place – on display in the Trent Bridge pavilion.”
The statue is bronze on a wooden plinth and any sightings or information leading to its return should be reported to Notts Police by calling 101, or to CrimeStoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111 quoting incident number 644 from May 4.
