Glamorgan sign Marsh for T20
By Richard Thomas
Glamorgan have confirmed they have signed up big-hitting Australia opener Shaun Marsh as their second overseas player for this season’s Friends Life t20 competition.
He will join up with fellow Australian Test star Marcus North who has arrived in Wales this weekend for the rest of the season.
After a dreadful start to their County Championship campaign Glamorgan are now targeting the Friends Provident t20.And Marsh certainly has the pedigree to make a difference.
The left-hander, who has played over 70 Twenty20 games averaging 42.58, was confirmed as the best performer in the Indian Premier League.
"Having played in both IPL and the Big Bash in Australia, I’m really looking forward to drawing on my experience and hitting some runs when I join up with the Welsh Dragons,” said the 28-year-old.
“I played alongside Marcus North at Western Australia before, so it will be great to join up with him again.
“Hopefully we can have a great t20 tournament and with the final of the competition in Cardiff it should be a great summer ahead."
Glamorgan’s Head of Elite Performance Matthew Mott believes Marsh can make a difference in this year’s tournament. “We are delighted to add Shaun Marsh to the Welsh Dragons squad,” he said.
“To bring in a player of Shaun’s calibre, a genuine match winner, to the top of the batting order will make us a more potent attacking force and with Shaun’s experience of the competition across the world he will also provide our young guns with a great deal of confidence.”
