Hampshire name new stands

By Bruce Talbot

Hampshire will officially name The Ageas Bowl stands after former captains Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie and Shane Warne next month.

The official naming ceremony will take place on the eve of England’s first one-day international of the summer, at The Ageas Bowl against the West Indies on June 16.

Warne will be there to officially unveil his stand on the western side of the ground. And the family of Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie will be present, as will a selection of former Hampshire captains, at an eve-of-ODI lunch.

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said: “Naming our new stands is a fantastic way for The Ageas Bowl to acknowledge two legends from Hampshire Cricket’s history; one of whom pre-dates the move to the new stadium while the other is symbolic of the first few seasons in West End.

“It is important to emphasise that we consulted our membership and fans to hear their suggestions as to whom they would like to see honoured and I think they have helped choose two very worthy individuals to be honoured by the club.

”Warne and the late Ingleby-Mackenzie both captained Hampshire with considerable flair. Ingleby-Mackenzie led Hampshire in the 1950s and 1960s, famously captaining the county to the first of their two County Championship titles in 1961.

Warne first played for Hampshire in 2000, the last season at Northlands Road. He captained Hampshire from 2004-2007, leading the county to Championship promotion in his first season. He also captained Hampshire to two Lord’s finals.
